Zora Neal Hurston

Zora Neal Hurston (1891 - 1960) was a fearless, spirited, collector and keeper of the culture. She was a Black woman who lived in the historic town of Eatonville, Florida. She lived...studied, researched and documented oral histories, praise songs, work songs, folklore, home remedies, survival stories, negro dialect ...just to name a few. She was a folklorist, prolific writer, actress, playwright, anthropologist; and she published many works of varying genres. Unfortunately, she died indigent…See More

"The event was attended by mostly old school. It was great to see the faces. I only attended DMHS for 11th and 12th grade graduating in 1969 so there were people who questioned whether I actually attended. Go figure. Who can know everyone in a school?"

In my work in education, I encounter many families and children dealing with unbelievab le challenges, and they never see or read about their story in a picture book. Yet, a picture book focused on the situation from a child's perspectiv e, would validate a child's experience, let em know they are no alone and also give them some hope. I am in the planning stages of writing a group of children's books highlighti ng children who live under socially and emotionall y challengin g circumstan ces… Continue

I have been blessed to work with children for over 30 years in various ways…and there are… Continue
